Was it better than staying home? Part 1

Like any company restructure, holidays should also be measured for success. The yardstick at our house is: was it better than staying home?
In my case, I live in a beautiful seaside town, with no traffic, good weather and at least five cafes. The kids have friends to play with here and there are no tropical diseases.
But wanderlust does not leave you (like your figure) when you have children. I still love to travel, but I want everyone to enjoy it from the four year old to the forty year old. It's quite a challenge but I think I'm up to it.
Step one:
Ignore the brochure about the tropical island paradise where you can do nothing all day.
Step two:
Gravitate towards anything with theme parks.
Step three:
Convince everyone that Disneyland was so good when you went (when you were seven) that it's worth a 13 hour flight to go there.
The catch is, I have to travel to Los Angeles by myself with two children aged seven and four, before meeting up with my husband. It's a calculated risk, one I hope will not doom the trip right from the start.
