Summer time and it's time to go

It's not easy living in paradise. The bar is much higher for any holiday than it otherwise might be. You know I have a strict rule for travel - it has to be better than staying home. So, if staying home is pretty damn good, you can see my problem. The photo below is just one of the hundreds of beaches within half an hour's drive.
But I've never forgotten being dragged around the USA as a child, forced to look at big old trees (Redwoods) and rocks (Grand Canyon/Death Valley). Nothing bores kids more than too much scenery, not matter how spectacular. And as you know, nothing bores me more than staying home for too long.
So with that in mind, we've reverted to the old favourite, theme parks, for the Christmas holiday this year. Queensland's Gold Coast has five theme parks, Movie World, Wet'n'Wild, Dreamworld, White Water World and Sea World. We have already been to two of them, Dreamworld and Sea World, so this time it's Movie World and its next door neighbour, Wet'n'Wild. (We chose Wet'n'wild for its lower height restrictions for most rides. 110cm for most attractions. White Water World is 130 or 140cm.)
It is ridiculously expensive, but it has that important factor that can never be beaten after a long, long summer holiday at home with the kids. They will love it. Guaranteed. It's true that if the kids have a good time you do as well. But I'll let you in on a secret. This is not a chore, like watching Under 6s soccer every week. It's pure bliss for me too.
